“I would just like to say that I was always stoked to see the vehicles The Chop Shop turned out. When I was given the opportunity to work some time with Laurie and the crew in their workshop it was a real high point for me and made a big impact on my ambitions and determination for my own career.”
“Winning the Scholarship will help me in building my Pickup. In October 2014 I bought myself an EX Australian army truck. A 1946 Ford Jailbar pickup, which I’m currently building in my back yard, as I don’t have a big garage. It’s under a “TARP PORT”.
My plan is to create a modern style hot rod that will also be somewhat of a dedication to those who serve in the public sector. Not only the Australian Defence force but police officers, nurses, firefighters; paramedics, life guards and the SES volunteers who contribute in keeping Australia a safe and free country. I would like the vehicle which started its life in the service of Australia to be rebuilt and revived and promote a reminder of those who served for our country in earlier times and the tradition that has lived through to today, through the life years of the 1946 Jailbar. I have some ideas about incorporating this theme in the paint and interior of the Pickup.”
David realises he’s fortunate to be able to work for two employers, as he says;
“Every day I see more and more things I would like to learn about and skills I would like to master. My position is unique as I get to work between two workshops which offer different types of vehicles and experience for me. Loyalty is also a factor for me. I approached many business owners when I was looking for my apprenticeship but it was Ian of Kreative Enterprises who offered me the opportunity to start my career. Ian and Mick believe in my potential and ability and have sacrificed to teach the apprentice. I respect their knowledge and their work ethic. And I get to work with and learn from a great group of guys, all experienced craftsmen who have their own different ideas and expertise in fabricating and engineering vehicles. Learning from the best is a great place to be for my training and for shaping my own ideals, standards and skills for my future career.”
